The mission of LISD PREP Academy, a comprehensive family-centered program, is to promote lifelong learning, independence, employability skills, healthy lifestyles, and positive family values through education and community involvement.

LISD PREP Academy is designed as a family support program to meet the needs of pregnant and parenting teens. This is a collaborative project of all eleven Lenawee County Public Schools and the human services agencies. The program is coordinated by the Lenawee Intermediate School District.

LISD PREP Academy Childcare gives infants, toddlers, and twos the consistent, positive attention they need. Aware of the developmental stages that go along with these early years, childcare staff guide children’s growth and development. Positive relationships with the childcare providers help children learn to trust others and themselves.

Childcare staff partner with parents, working together to help children grow up healthy, happy and strong.

PREP Academy Child Care Offers:

  • Michigan Early Childhood Standards of Quality for Infant and Toddler Programs
  • Developmentally appropriate practice for young children
  • The Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers, and Twos
  • Ages & Stages Questionnaire developmental screening
  • Managed by the districts Young Children Services
  • Licensed by the State of Michigan for children two weeks to 3 years old
  • Experienced, trained childcare providers
  • Staff-parent partnerships
  • Community referrals

These resources provide the basis for daily planning and implementation of a developmentally appropriate, research-based curriculum which provides a solid foundation for learning through social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.

Family Services

The LISD PREP Academy provides the Parents as Teachers program which is designed to offer developmental information and support to parents of infants, toddlers, and twos. The goal of the program is to help parents give their child the best possible start in life. Parents as Teachers is designed to offer three ways to partner with parents to help each child reach their full potential for learning success.

Personal Visits

During a personal visit, a certified parent educator shares information on child development, brings an age-appropriate activity for you and your child to do together, and with you, observes your child’s play and development.

Playgroups

Weekly interactive parent-child playgroups are held on site in the childcare classrooms. Playgroups provide a variety of parent education and allows you to connect with other parents raising young children.

Screenings

Screenings provide an opportunity to see how your child is progressing within the standard measure of child development. Hearing and vision screenings are also provided. Screenings usually reassure parents that their child is meeting developmental milestones within typical age ranges.

What you can you expect from your parent educator:

  • Information on what you can reasonably expect of your child at each stage of development
  • Connect you with the community resources
  • Assist you in becoming a good observer of your child
  • Help you have fun playing with your child, and show you age appropriate activities and materials
  • Support you being your child’s first and most important teacher
