Today, Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Michigan President & CEO Arden Floran and Director of Workforce Development Beth McCary toured Project SEARCH at ProMedica Hickman Hospital.
They met each student, saw them in action on the job, and experienced firsthand the impact of this program. Huge thanks to Glen Bowman for leading the tour and showcasing the incredible work happening every day!

BETA Project Updates. First Week went very well. All of the BETA's are still alive and thriving. Some of the names are Swimshady, Firehouse, Bluey, Titan, William the 1st, Namless, and Freddy. Some students are still thinking about it. They are in the thank-you letter stage. So, you will soon be seeing it in the mail. Please keep in mind that if you don't see one, you will after spring break, when the second set starts. Responsiveness has been very good, and the students are learning how much to feed and when to change out the water. They are also learning about temperature and documentation. This is all positive and fun. On to week two!

Project SEARCH is hosting Information Night for Lenawee County high school seniors with an IEP on January 29th from 6:00pm - 8:00 at ProMedica Charles & Virginia Hospital.

Reminder that Project SEARCH is a one-year post-secondary employability skills and job development internship program.

83% of Project SEARCH interns find entry level employment, working more than half time and earning more than minimum wage in an integrated setting. However, there are alumni who pursued higher forms of education following Project SEARCH. Holding with tradition, a parent/alumni panel will be present to tell you their stories related to their time with the program.

Attendees will receive a packet with detailed next steps, including application, needed to be invited to participate with Assessment Day on March 11th.

Due to weather-related school closures this week, Project SEARCH will accept RSVPs through January 28.

Thanks to the creativity of Sherry Kurek at CEM@T and the generosity of LISD staff who personally donated, the Beta Project (Beneficial Education through Aquatics) is officially swimming into action. This week, students began preparing their aquariums as they get ready to welcome their Betta fish next week.

This hands-on project teaches responsibility, accountability, ownership, and compassion as students care for their fish over the coming weeks. From feeding to maintaining their habitats, students will be learning science and life skills in a meaningful, memorable way.

We are grateful to our staff sponsors who helped make this experience possible and can’t wait to see the connections and growth that come from it.
