Our toddlers and preschoolers had a spooktacular time trick-or-treating throughout the building today! 🍬🕸️
Not only did students enjoy collecting treats from classrooms and offices, but they also had wonderful opportunities to practice their communication and social skills along the way — saying “trick or treat,” greeting staff, and thanking friends for their goodies. 💬🧡
A big thank you to everyone who helped make this event so festive and fun for our little learners! 🦇🎉

Great things happening at Prairie Elementary! LISD itinerants Maddie Bielskis, school psychologist, Kia Rainey, speech and language pathologist, Christy Vigo, occupational therapist, and Chloe Pike, school social worker partnered to teach one of the first grade classrooms how to use LAMP to communicate with their friends. LAMP is an augmentative and alternative communication app that assists students struggling with language output better communicate. We know when teams work together outcomes are better. One of the many highlights of the day was when a student used the device to tell their teacher they loved her. This is an example of what you can accomplish as a team. Amazing job!

Over the next couple of weeks, LISD staff are participating in CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training. This training focuses on preventing and safely responding to crisis situations with respect, care, and a trauma-informed approach.
The goal is simple: to keep students, staff, and our entire school community safe while supporting every learner with dignity. These moments of practice help ensure that, if challenges arise, our team is prepared with calm, consistent strategies.

This year’s Opening Day kicked off with incredible energy, and one unforgettable highlight involved a bold fashion statement… pink pants!
Alena York, Executive Director of Special Education, started it all as the original pink pants icon. The pants quickly became more than just a wardrobe choice. They symbolized risk taking, trusting your team, tackling challenges head on, having fun, and loving what you do.
For Boss’s Day, Superintendent Mark Haag received a pair of his own, and let’s just say… he wore them like a champ! 👏 We loved seeing him embrace the spirit of the moment with a great sense of humor.
Here’s to leading with heart, courage, and maybe a little bit of pink flair.
