Big things are growing at Michener Elementary! First grade students in Ms. Marry and Mrs. Pifer's classrooms recently wrapped up an incredible 3P (Project, Problem, and Place-based learning) project focused on making a real impact in their school community. After surveying their school grounds and identifying local issues, students chose to create a native pollinator garden to help support bees and other pollinators. Along the way, students researched native plants, learned about ecosystems and pollinators, and even took a walking field trip to Lowe’s to help select the plants for their garden. Their hard work is now blooming into something beautiful for both their school and the environment! A special shout out to Jackie Murray, Science Curriculum Consultant with the LISD, who worked alongside the classrooms throughout the project to help guide learning, support the teachers, and connect students with meaningful, hands-on science experiences. This is what learning looks like when curiosity, community, and creativity come together. #LenaweeEducation #LenaweeISD #LISD

Today was the very first Haviland/Porter Pinewood Derby and the excitement was off the charts! Students spent time designing, building, and decorating their cars ahead of race day, learning firsthand how every little detail could impact speed, weight, and performance on the track.

The races brought tons of energy, cheering, and competition as cars zoomed toward the finish line. In the end, Lyrik's Pikachu-themed car raced its way to victory, earning the title of our first ever Pinewood Derby champion!

A huge shoutout to Sherry Kurek from CEM@T for organizing such a creative and engaging experience for our students. Sherry always finds fun, hands-on ways to spark excitement and learning, and today was another incredible example of that!

What a fun two days for Lenawee County students!

Through the Adrian Symphony Orchestra’s Storybook Concerts and Link Up programs, students were able to experience music in a hands-on and engaging way. We are so thankful to have the Adrian Symphony Orchestra in our community and for their continued commitment to educational opportunities for students.

Experiences like these help inspire creativity, build confidence, and give students meaningful exposure to the arts, all while having a great time!

Yesterday, we celebrated more than the dedication of a house. We celebrated the impact of hard work, community, and opportunity.

What started as an empty lot on Howell Ave. in Adrian is now a beautiful home for the Zick Family, thanks in part to the incredible work of our Residential Construction students. Seeing the joy on their faces made it all come together.

We are so proud of our students for the craftsmanship, dedication, and heart they poured into this project. A special thank you to Lenawee County Habitat for Humanity for partnering with us and giving our students the opportunity to take on such a meaningful project.

Today the Porter community came together for an amazing cookout filled with great food, laughter, and connection! More than 80 students and staff gathered to enjoy a fun, natural peer-to-peer experience that truly showed the heart of Porter. Events like this take a village, and so many helping hands made it possible. A special thank you goes out to Bolt Express for the generous ice cream donation that made the day even sweeter! Today we had the exciting opportunity to welcome Cindy Hasselbring, Integration Manager for the Office of STEM Engagement at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, to the LISD TECH Center alongside her mother, Jan Hasselbring, who is from Michigan.

Cindy is helping lead Career and Technical Education (CTE) initiatives through NASA, making today’s visit especially meaningful as we showcased the incredible opportunities our students experience every day right here in Lenawee County.

The visit was made even more special through the connection between Cindy and LISD Assistant Superintendent of CTE & Instruction/General Services Jenny Heath, who are former colleagues. Their professional relationship helped open the door for NASA to visit our building and see firsthand the innovation, hands-on learning, and career preparation happening right here in Lenawee County.

We are grateful for the chance to share our programs, our students, and our vision for the future of CTE with leaders who are helping shape opportunities on a national level.

Happening now at the LCASB Legislative Breakfast, education leaders from across Lenawee County are coming together for important conversations about the future of schools in Michigan. Senator Joe Bellino and Annie Monaweck are leading discussions on current budget proposals, legislative updates, and key issues impacting students, staff, and districts across our region.

This morning also includes a special moment of recognition as we honor three superintendents retiring at the end of the school year: Scott Salow of Addison Community Schools, Sharon Smith of Sand Creek Community Schools, and Dr. Michael Osborne of Hudson Area Schools. Thank you for your years of leadership, dedication, and service to students, staff, and families across Lenawee County.

Thank you to the Lenawee County superintendents and board members joining us this morning and continuing to advocate for strong schools and opportunities for all students!

This week, our LISD PBIS team of Jamie Salenbien, Erica Kranz, and Melissa Loftis welcomed student leaders from across Lenawee County to the Student LEAD Conference at Stubnitz Environmental Center. Throughout the day, students collaborated, shared ideas, explored new ways to strengthen PBIS in their schools, and celebrated the positive culture already being built across our county.

The future is bright when students step up to lead, encourage others, and create change in their school communities. We’re proud of every student who took the initiative to learn, grow, and bring new ideas back to their schools!
