January is School Board Recognition Month, a time when nearly 600 local and intermediate school districts across Michigan come together to honor more than 4,000 elected school board members for their dedication to public education and strong school governance.

Today, January 14, Yvonne Thomas, President of the Lenawee County Association of School Boards, and Superintendent Mark Haag of the Lenawee Intermediate School District accepted a proclamation from the Lenawee County Commission at its regularly scheduled meeting. The proclamation was read by Commissioner Dustin Krasny, District 2, and recognized the outstanding leadership and service of school board members throughout Lenawee County.

Paired with the joint statement from the Lenawee County Superintendents Association, this moment serves as a heartfelt thank you to the board members who give their time, energy, and vision to support students, staff, and communities across our county.

We’re proud to welcome Amanda Koch as the new Director of the Lenawee County Early College, where she will help expand opportunities and strengthen pathways for students across Lenawee County. Join us in giving her a warm welcome to Lenawee County!

She began her career in education in 2010, teaching middle and high school mathematics in the Grand Rapids and Saginaw areas. In 2016, she transitioned into administration, serving as a Secondary Curriculum Coach and Coordinator at Saginaw Public Schools, where she focused on mathematics and science content and mentored new teachers.

In fall 2022, she joined the Saginaw Intermediate School District as a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Consultant. In this role, she supported special populations, developed and led professional development, assisted with state reporting and compliance, supported dual enrollment and early college coordination, led recruitment efforts for CTE programs, and helped advance county-wide CTE initiatives. In addition to her professional work, she has coached middle school through varsity-level softball and volleyball.

Originally from Auburn, she attended Bay City Western High School and the Bay-Arenac Career Center, where she earned cosmetology licensure, which she continues to maintain. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Saginaw Valley State University (2009) and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Michigan (2013).

Outside of work, she enjoys traveling and exploring new places, with a goal of visiting all 50 states. She also values time with family and friends, participates in sports and outdoor activities, and enjoys playing the piano.
