Congratulations to Michelle Bowman, October’s Barry the Bear Award recipient!

Michelle was nominated by a fellow teacher who shared how often she turns to Michelle for new ideas, guidance and feedback when it comes to PBIS. She also highlighted Michelle’s willingness to share what works in her classroom so others can use and adapt those strategies with their own students.

Wellness checklist for deciding whether a student should attend school. Students can attend with a runny nose or small cough and no other symptoms, after being fever-free without medication for 24 hours, and after 24 hours without vomiting or diarrhea while eating and drinking normally. Students should stay home for a persistent cough, temperature over 100 degrees, vomiting or diarrhea, pink crusty eyes, or when instructed by a doctor. “Here Today, Ready for Tomorrow.”

Last year at Morenci Elementary, S.T.E.A.M. students put new ChompSaws to work designing and building their own cardboard violins. Along the way, they practiced tool safety, creativity, critical thinking and the engineering design process.

It’s one more example of what can happen when a great classroom idea gets a little extra support.
