Our final CTE Month post! The Culinary Arts program has been cooking this school year!
Students in the LISD TECH Center’s Culinary Arts program learn to manage real-world kitchen challenges in a classroom that doubles as a commercial kitchen and is fully equipped with institutional cooking equipment. Cooking, baking, management, and safety and sanitation practices are the focus of the program. Students will learn to create recipes, prepare meals from scratch, perform basic daily kitchen operations including cost controls, inventory and ordering. Students are involved in planning and coordinating several events throughout the year and cater meals at the LISD TECH Center. This program helps develop leadership skills through these events as well as participation in several competitions.

CTE Month Bonus post! We have more programs than there were days in CTE Month (February). Today, we take a look at our AST program!
In the Automotive Services Technology (AST) program, students work in teams in a shop setting to learn to diagnose and repair automotive steering and suspension systems, brake and electrical systems, and engine performance problems. Students take part in SkillsUSA leadership events, and second-year students become team leaders. Students can earn several certifications as part of the coursework. The program is accredited by the Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation (ASEEF).

Carter Voll, a first-year senior in our Automotive Collision Repair and Refinish program AM session from Clinton High School, just took first place in his division at Detroit Autorama, and that is only part of the story. He also earned the Next Gen Modifiers Award, first in the Mini Truckin class, Rising Star Best Paint, and Rising Star Best Interior.
Competing at one of the most respected custom car shows in the country and coming home with this level of recognition is incredible for anyone, and especially impressive for a high school student. From the classroom to the show floor, Carter is showing what skill, dedication, and passion can accomplish. Join us in congratulating him on an outstanding achievement.

Our talented Culinary Arts students recently hosted a formal three-course dinner for our Accounting and Computer Information Services (CIS) students.
The goal? Ensuring our future business leaders are as sharp at the dinner table as they are with a spreadsheet or a line of code. This "dry run" helped our students polish their formal dining etiquette ahead of the upcoming Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Competition.
A huge thank you to the Culinary team for the incredible service and delicious food. We’re feeling confident, well-fed, and ready to take on State!

Special congratulations to Eli Rupp (Blissfield), Dayne Tinkey (Hudson), Ethan Rising (Hudson), Eli Jones (Clinton), Nolan Rumsey (Onsted), and Lucas Emrick (Tecumseh), who will move on to represent Lenawee County at the SKILLS USA State competition in April!

Our Computer Programming class is our next focus for CTE month!
This one- or two-year program will cover topics relating to software development with a focus on computer programming. The program is designed to accommodate different skill levels from introductory to the college level where students will learn how to plan, write, implement, debug, and maintain computer programs. Students will have the opportunity to learn mobile, game, web, and/or robotics programming in addition to computer application development, and will use a blended learning environment that combines online curriculum with hands-on labs and projects.
First year students will start the program learning the Python programming language, and will then go onto another language such as C#, C++, or Java, or may instead pursue web development with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Second year students will work with the instructor to create an individualized course plan to study advanced topics relating to computer programming.
Students are able to earn college credit and industry certifications as part of this program.
