Approximately 1.3 million students entered the 2027 competition, with 50,000 receiving recognition and 34,000 named Commended Students. Tony shares his relief that his hard work and preparation paid off.

Tony also recalls his middle school English teacher, Mrs. Smith, who provided advanced reading opportunities, including Frankenstein. Originally from Britton-Deerfield, Tony chose JC/LISD Academy for additional academic opportunities.
Text describes how dual enrollment at JC/LISD Academy helped Tony explore different subjects and discover his future college major. By graduation, he expects to earn approximately 70 college credits, complete his Michigan Transfer Agreement and receive both an Associate of Science and an Associate of Arts degree.
