Media Release for Top Gun Award featuring Mark Pfister's family with students

Adrian, MI – The Lenawee Intermediate School District (LISD) proudly recognized the outstanding achievements of students in the Automotive Collision Repair and Refinish program at the 9th Annual Mark Pfister Top Gun Award ceremony, held May 6, 2025, at the LISD TECH Center.

This year’s Top Gun Award was presented to Alexander Cubberly, a second-year student from Addison High School, who has demonstrated not only exceptional technical skills, but also integrity, leadership, and commitment to excellence—core traits that reflect the spirit of the award’s namesake.

The award honors the legacy of Mark Pfister, a beloved instructor in the Automotive Collision Repair and Refinish program who passed away in 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mark was known for his unwavering dedication, strong character, and the lasting impact he had on both students and colleagues. During the event, LISD TECH Center instructor Al Constable, a close friend and colleague of Pfister’s, reflected on Mark’s legacy and his influence across the LISD community.

Current program instructor Kortney Thumme, who also worked alongside Pfister, delivered remarks celebrating all four nominees and recognizing the character and work ethic that has become the hallmark of this honor.

“Each year, we select students who embody the same values Mark lived by—honesty, integrity, hard work, and family,” Thumme shared. “It’s never an easy decision, but we’re incredibly proud of each nominee and all they’ve accomplished.”

In addition to Alexander Cubberly, this year’s finalists included:

·       Gustavo Morales, Adrian High School

·       Seth Craiger, Tecumseh High School

·       Pierce Wilhelm, Tecumseh High School

Each student was recognized for their academic excellence, leadership in the classroom, and commitment to the craft of collision repair.

Cubberly, the 2025 award winner, served as a student leader during the morning session, maintained an A average, and was a reliable lead on numerous customer projects. He plans to continue his education at Lansing Community College in Aviation Technology, following in his father’s footsteps.

The LISD congratulates all the nominees for their dedication and success, and thanks the Pfister family, LISD staff, and program partners for their continued support of this meaningful tradition.
