Adrian, MI – The 2026 Tri-County Elementary Science Olympiad brought 355 young scientists together for a day of hands-on discovery and friendly competition on the campus of Adrian College.
Students in third through fifth grade from Lenawee and Hillsdale counties participated in a variety of science challenges designed to test creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills. In total, 302 students attended from Lenawee County and 53 from Hillsdale County.
Throughout the day, students collaborated with teammates, tested ideas and explored scientific concepts while educators, volunteers and families cheered them on.
“At every moment of the day, the energy from the students is incredible,” said Linda Knape of the Lenawee Intermediate School District, who leads the organization of the annual event with the support of a dedicated team of staff and volunteers. “Whether they are deep in competition, waiting for their next event, enjoying the science entertainment or celebrating during the awards ceremony, their excitement and curiosity fill the entire space. It is inspiring to watch.”
At the conclusion of the competition, overall team awards were presented by grade level. In the third grade division, Clinton earned first place, followed by Lenawee Christian in second and Adrian Lincoln in third. In fourth grade, Clinton placed first, Hillsdale finished second and Adrian Alexander took third. In fifth grade, Morenci claimed first place, Tecumseh earned second and Adrian Lincoln placed third.
Team Spirit Awards were presented to Adrian Alexander in third grade, Lenawee Christian Red in fourth grade and Hillsdale in fifth grade.
Knape said the event continues to grow and organizers hope to welcome even more schools in the future.
“We would love to see additional schools from across the tri-county area join us next year,” Knape said. “We have room to expand and would be excited to welcome even more young scientists into this experience.”
