Adrian, MI – When the fall season begins, so do dozens of opportunities for adults across Lenawee County to learn something new. From professional certifications to personal enrichment classes, the Lenawee Intermediate School District’s adult learning programs are designed to meet adults right where they are, whether they want to brush up on job skills, explore a hobby, or simply connect with others.

As the fall semester kicks off, the LISD is already looking ahead to winter. The district is inviting local residents to consider stepping into the role of instructor and sharing their own skills, knowledge, and passions with the community.

“Adult education strengthens our community by opening doors to new skills, careers, and creativity as well as providing opportunities for people to connect,” said Amy Hinkley, Supervisor of Adult Learning Services. “Whether it’s preparing for a healthcare career through Clinical Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant training, building confidence in the kitchen with culinary classes, or exploring talents through sewing, knitting, crocheting, and flower arranging, these programs empower individuals to grow, connect, and contribute in meaningful ways. Adult education is not just about learning—it’s about enriching lives and building a stronger community together.”

One of the biggest benefits of becoming an instructor with LISD adult learning programs is the flexibility. Instructors have the freedom to design their own course schedule, deciding how often to meet and for how many weeks. For some classes, it makes sense to meet only a few times. For others, multiple weekly sessions help participants build a more advanced skill set.

The district provides the classroom space and support, while instructors bring the expertise. Classes are open to all adults in the community, attracting a wide range of learners. Some want to strengthen career skills, while others simply want to do something fun or meet new people.

“Every skill has the power to inspire others,” Hinkley added. “Imagine the impact of a community where neighbors teach neighbors—whether it’s photography, Spanish, home maintenance, or computer skills. Adult education thrives when people share what they know, turning personal passions into opportunities that enrich the lives of others.”

Those interested in proposing a class or learning more about becoming an instructor can contact the LISD Adult Learning office at 517-265-1650.

Whether you’re an expert in a trade, a hobbyist with years of experience, or simply passionate about teaching others, the LISD invites you to help expand opportunities for adult learning in Lenawee County.
