Adrian, MI – The Lenawee Intermediate School District (LISD) is mourning the loss of longtime Board of Education member Richard Germond, who passed away on April 30, 2025, at the age of 90. Mr. Germond served the district with distinction for 25 years—many of those as Board President—and was known throughout the community as a dedicated advocate for students and a tireless public servant.

At the time of his passing, Mr. Germond was in his 25th year of service on the LISD Board of Education, most recently serving as Vice President and Secretary. A steadfast champion for public education, his leadership helped shape numerous initiatives that have strengthened learning opportunities across Lenawee County.

“Mr. Germond was a true icon of community service in Adrian and across Lenawee County,” said Mark Haag, LISD Superintendent. “His unwavering dedication, tireless efforts to improve the lives of others, especially children, and his deep commitment to public service have left a legacy. The impact of his work will continue to be felt for generations. Our community is profoundly grateful for his service, and he will be deeply missed.”

Beyond his work with LISD, Mr. Germond was actively engaged in a variety of civic roles and community efforts, consistently seeking ways to give back and improve the lives of others. His decades of service reflected a deep belief in the power of education and community to build a better future.

“He was a great community servant, a great husband, a great father, and a great friend to many,” said Jim Hartley, LISD Board President.

The LISD extends heartfelt condolences to Mr. Germond’s family, friends, and colleagues during this time of loss. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit of service and leadership will continue to guide and inspire. Information regarding memorial arrangements and ways to honor Mr. Germond’s memory will be shared in his obituary when it becomes available.

In the coming weeks, the LISD Board of Education will begin the process of appointing a new member to fill the vacancy created by Mr. Germond’s passing.
