Introduction to Agriscience
The Introduction to Agriscience program is designed for 8th to 12th grade students who express an interest in the Natural Resources & Agriscience pathway, introducing students to biological and physical practices in agriscience education.
This program is suitable for students who want to make a positive difference in the world, protect the environment, grow healthy food, or even start their own business. Students will gain skills necessary to obtain a job in an almost limitless career field, including but not limited to, a DNR ranger (Department of Natural Resources), a forester, greenhouse manager, landscaper, veterinarian, farmer, and lab technician. Prior experience is not necessary. This program is designed to be a one-year course that complements other programs at the LISD TECH Center including Agri-Tech, Biochemical Technology, Horticulture, and Natural Resources.
Program Description
Introduction to Agriscience involves five main areas of instruction that gives the students a sample of what our day time TECH Center Agriscience programs are like and allows students the opportunity to join our FFA student leadership organization. The five main areas of instruction are:
Animal Science and Agriculture Practices
Plant Science and Careers in Horticulture
Biotechnology and Laboratory Skills
Environmental Science and Natural Resources
Student Leadership Organization - The National FFA Organization
This one-year program is designed for students in 8th to 12th grade to develop skills and explore opportunities within the fields of Agriculture including Horticulture, Biochemical Technology, and Natural Resources. This program blends outdoor experiences with laboratory skills.
To Be Successful
Successful students in this program are self-motivated, enjoy working outdoors with plants and animals, and may have an interest in science and environmental issues. Good reading and math skills and the ability to learn scientific research skills are helpful.
