Doug McMullen brings over 22 years of experience in police services. He retired from the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office in 2021. Most of his career was spent in the traffic services unit. Doug was responsible for investigating fatal and serious injury crashes and various other traffic offenses. He specialized in impaired driving investigations and documenting crime scenes. Doug has taught impaired driving enforcement throughout the state for Michigan's Office of Highway Safety Planning. Additionally, he was a member of the Sheriff's Office Honor Guard, a training officer, and part of the Sheriff's Motorcycle Unit. Before his career in law enforcement, Doug was enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for nine years.
Law Enforcement & Corrections
This new program offering for the 2023-2024 school year will introduce students to the field of law enforcement and corrections. The program will focus on understanding the public safety branches, law and the legal system, problem solving and investigations, and communications and ethics in law enforcement. This program is being created in response to student demand and workforce data that highlights a need for more law enforcement officials in our county.
Program Description
In this program, students will be exposed to the career field of criminal justice. There are many facets to the field and we will use guest speakers to bring those various roles into the classroom. Guest speakers include, but are not limited to:

We will use a curriculum that is largely online with plenty of videos and the ability to work at your own pace. Topics will include:

If you have a desire to serve and are willing to put others ahead of yourself, this may be the program for you. There are group academic exercises that will develop your ability to work as a team, group physical training twice a week, leadership opportunities throughout the year, as well as the opportunity to compete against other schools using the skills you learn. The classroom environment is built on trust, accountability, and responsibility.
