2022 Tri-County STEM Fair Winners
The 2022 Tri-County STEM Fair was held virtually March 15-17, 2022. Students in grades 5 through 12 from Hillsdale, Lenawee, and Monroe counties had the opportunity to develop and work on a project in the areas of Life Science, Physical Science, Social Science, Technology and Engineering, or Team Projects. Projects were divided into two divisions: Division I for students in 5th – 8th grades and Division II for students in 9th – 12th grades.
This year’s event included 152 projects representing 179 students from Adrian Public Schools, Blissfield Community Schools, Jonesville Community Schools, and the LISD TECH Center. Twenty-two volunteer judges dedicated their time and expertise to review through the digitally uploaded projects utilizing the Tri-County STEM Fair rubric. Teachers, students and parents were able to view the projects virtually on a website created to display the projects.
A virtual awards presentation was held on March 17, 2022, to announce the project winners and celebrate the success of all participants. The top seven projects were ranked and received a certificate with a medal or a ribbon, while the top three places in each category also received a cash award. Sponsor awards were also given to project winners. Anderson Development Company sponsored a cash award for 4 projects in Excellence in Chemistry. Hidden Lake Gardens sponsored a full-year membership with the Best Horticulture/Gardening Project Award. Siena Heights University provided 4 gift baskets for their awards Best Science Fair Projects. PlaneWave Instruments sponsored a cash award for 2 PlaneWave Excellence in Science Awards. Adrian College Chemistry and Biochemistry Department provided an Adrian College bookstore gift card for their award. Evonik donated 2 large duffel bags for their Leading beyond Chemistry Awards. The Lenawee Conservation District provided several book packages for the Excellence in Environmental Science Awards. The MSU Extension Services donated a gift bag for the Excellence in Agriculture Award.
