Examples or Ideas for Integration of DV in the Classroom
  • 2005 Student Video Discovery Awards (SVDA) finalists - Award winning student-created videos hosted on the Video Resource Center from eSchool News Online. View: 'School Violence' and 'Single Parenting' from Rockford HS.
  • ASL Poetry and Stories from Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center - Outstanding use of digital video. 'Students at the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center, created a variety of stories and poems in American Sign Language (ASL).'
  • Anthony Wayne HS Video Journalism, Whitehouse, OH - Students' Mid-Year Video Projects. (QuickTime player needed)
  • Digital Storytelling in the Scott County Schools - See how one school district is successfully combining students' writing with digital video. For student-created videos, click on 'Our students created their stories' in left column.
  • Digital Video for Problem Solving/Decision Making - A look at how digital video can be implemented using a problem solving approach. This web page is part of the 'Technology Enhanced Learning Environments' project, structured upon ISTE NETS, created by education undergrads at the University of Georgia.
  • Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Video Festival - See link below the logo for 'list of 2004-05 finalists and winners & their videos.' Note the pull-down menu of links above the Adobe Acrobat Reader logo. Includes a page on 'Tools you can use.'
  • Historic Explorer Interview Videos from T. Vincent's class, Planet 5th, Omaha, NE - Grade 5 student-created DVs of famous explorers like Marco Polo and Magellan. 'Students used their social studies textbooks and the internet to research early explorers of America. They worked with partners to gather information and to write a script for the interview.'
  • McLane High School's 2004 Video Journalism Homepage, Fresno, CA - Student-created videos for 'McLane News' posted in QuickTime format. See Cat Dissections on the Feb. 2004 videos page. See also: McLane's 2003 site: http://mclane.fresno.k12.ca.us/videojournalism/index03.html
  • Oral History Project: A Culture and Heritage Exchange Initiative - 'This project brings history to life as students become historians of war, culture and heritage experiences. This inter-generational streaming media project, in partnership with the Library of Congress to preserve and honor the oral histories of American Veterans, brings communities and schools together in an unparalleled civic pursuit - a project-based learning experience that is immeasurable in its scope.' Click on 'Veteran Stories' to see student-created videos, many from Oakland Schools, Michigan.
  • Using iMovie! from Springfield, IL - A mix of student and teacher productions; Try 'Owl Pellets.'
  • Video Production Entries, Snoqualmie Valley School District, WA - Student-created videos from Snoqualmie's 2002 Fine Arts Showcase (software used: Adobe Premiere).
  • Video Projects (Moose Jaw, SK, Canada) - A sample of implmentation ideas and teacher and student created videos on web site from Dean Shareski, Educational Consultant, Moose Jaw, SK, Canada
  • iCan Student Film Festival: San Fernando Education Technology Team (SFETT) - Some of the best student-created short films in the country can be found here (gm). 'iCan is a short film festival produced by students from San Fernando, CA, USA. The movies are projects for school assignments as well as projects for community building. Digital storytelling is our way of promoting the arts, celebrating our culture, and improving our communications with you: the world. We hope you enjoy our efforts.'
  • iMovie in the Classroom - iMovie revolutionized digital video production in the classroom. This Apple web site introduces how the software is impacting learning. Note the links on the right hand side of the web page which lead to more examples of how iMovie is being used by students and educators.

  • Cannon DV website - The ZR series camcorders are reasonably priced, function simply and well.
  • Final Cut Express by Apple - For people who want video editing software that is more advanced than iMovie.
  • Pinnacle Systems Products - Studio version 9 is an entry level DV editing software package for PCs.
  • Sonic - Sonic offers DVD creation applications for PC.
  • VideoWave Movie Creator by Roxio - A $50 digital video editing software package. Web site includes a link to product data sheet, online tutorial, and (at the left) a downloadable demo and product comparison.
