School Delay and Closing Information
How will I know if school is closed or will be closing due to snow or other weather conditions?
Listen to the radio or TV for information provided for Special Education students and the Lenawee Intermediate School District.
NOTE: When radio announcers give information for LENAWEE TRANSPORTATION, be aware that this is NOT US. WE ARE THE LENAWEE INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL DISTRICT SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS, and announcers will often mention "including programs at the Milton C. Porter Education Center".

A decision will be made as early as possible since many of our buses are scheduled to leave early in the morning. Letters regarding weather procedures will be sent to parents annually by the Transportation Department in October or November.
Criteria used to determine delays or cancellations:
- If 3 of the core schools and 1 other local district delay/close, we will follow their recommendation.
- If 2 of the core schools and 4 other local districts delay/close, we will follow their recommendation.
Core schools in Lenawee County are: Adrian, Tecumseh, Madison and Onsted.
LISD buses will not operate in districts that closed or are running buses on emergency or alternate routes due to road conditions. (Other reasons may alter this situation).
If your student rides a LISD bus but attends a program located in a school outside of your local district, there may be confusion regarding whether the bus will be coming. MORNINGS SUCH AS THIS ARE VERY HECTIC FOR THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT. ALTHOUGH IT MAY TAKE A WHILE TO GET THROUGH, WE WELCOME PHONE CALLS REGARDING INDIVIDUAL STUDENT SITUATIONS.
If you choose to bring your child to school from a district that is closed, you will be expected to provide transportation home as well.
Instant ALERT SYSTEM FOR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES
Changes to the school calendar or school day due to rescheduled events, weather, emergencies, special activities and/or reminders for you and your student will also be available to you through the school's Instant Alert System. The school's Instant Alert system will telephone and/or email you with information about these changes when they occur.
All Lenawee County schools utilize the "Blackboard" Instant Alert System. The Blackboard system will update your contact data (telephone, email address) automatically from your student's school information file. Please be sure to notify your student's school secretary with any changes to your contact information. Your student's file and the "Blackboard" system information will be updated to ensure continuation of Instant Alerts via telephone and/or email.
